-Fiberactions Journey Journal-

Like many of the others, after the initiative challenge was announced I went to the dictionary, thesaurus and sketchbook.  It took me a few days to come up with my concept, but once I did - I knew I was going to go with it. The hard part was deciding how I would represent, in fabric, what I was thinking.  I sketched out several designs, never in one sketch book.  Once I came up with my final design, I thought it would have been nice if I had the sketches contained in one book where I could illustrate how and why I went from one sketch to another.

SueB recommended I make a scrap book/journal for myself. I knew what she meant by 'make'....... I didn't exactly make this journal, I took a premade mixed media journal and customized the cover. Inside I plan to keep all of my Fiberactions notes and sketches. It is big enough so I can add envelopes for fabric scraps or whatever I might have been considering for each challenge interval.  At the end of the 2 years I think it will be neat to go back and look at how I approached each challenge.

(ps-my challenge does not look anything like the journal cover, so this is not a sneak peak...)

Enjoy the journey.

  1. What a great idea! I'll bet that the contents of this journal will be inspiration for other projects....like in TV land......spin off's :-)

  4. Keeping a journal of our challenges is a wonderful idea, Kathy. I'm going to steal your idea and start one of my own. If I ever manage to do sketches for any type of project, they are all over everywhere ... usually never to be found again. I need something to keep me more disciplined. Like I did when constructing my quilt for our 'Inititive' project, I tend to work off the top of my head with very little preplanning. I'm sure a journal will help me become a better artist.

  5. I'm the same way Meg. I tend to sketch out my ideas on a loose sheet of paper and then they end up all over the place. Not very organized. Perhaps I should make this my New Year's resolution.

  6. Glad to hear that there are other unorganized members of this group! I waste tons of time looking for things. I also am very spontaneous in my work. I think I have spent more time planning and thinking about this project than anything I have ever done.

  8. The journal is a wonderful idea! I think I would like to try to do the same. Although I tend to sketch on things like napkins & EKG strips! I suppose they would add their own charm to the project! Thanks for sharing a great idea!
