Being a collector of quotes and a quilter of what I see around me, I thought this monochromatic challenge was the perfect time to use some of my rust-dyed fabrics. This poetry of Kahlil Gibran has always resonated with me ...
"Trees are poems that earth writes upon the sky,
We fell them down and turn them into paper,
That we may record our emptiness."

It's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous piece! With the poem it becomes beautifully sad, in a positive way.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous, Meg!
ReplyDeleteThat is just gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a gift for balance and texture. The details are perfect.
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful piece of work from you Meg! The stitching, the words...it's all perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt. What a great poem. Is this all hand stitched?
ReplyDeleteI love it Meg! How did you make the 7 little balls under the birds? I enjoyed the poem and the embroidered words are great.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind comments, gals! Yes, Deb, it's all hand stitched. I've been afraid of sewing machines (tho' I have 3 working ones and 1 that doesn't!) since I had the needle go through my finger while my grandmother was trying to teach me to sew a very long time ago! LOL Even though my hands are in such bad shape, I don't think I could ever give up stitching now that I've finally found what I love. At least we have 2 months to finish these quilts!!!
ReplyDeleteSusan, I have no idea what these beads are made of. I think they are some sort of seed. They came from an old necklace that was made in Africa.
Wow, this is a very moving piece - and yes, an ideal use of rust dyed fabrics. Excellent. -sus
