Cycle - Recycle 29"x30"
This challenge using neutrals ... my favorite, by the way ... gave me the chance to use some fabrics that I had thrown into my 'hopeless failures' pile. Last year I had tried compost dyeing after learning of the process from Kimberly Baxter Packwood. I'm afraid I wasn't quite as successful as Kimberly! My compost pile ate my fabric in one short week! Guess it's all that acid rain here on the mountaintop. I also had some less than stellar ecoprints of leaves in the pile.
So ... what do I do with a bunch of unlovely leaves and decomposed muslin? What else? Use them to stitch my version of what goes on inside the lowly compost pile while I sleep? Despite the dregs thrown onto it, microscopic creatures go to work, magic happens and I end up with black gold to enrich my garden.
Beautiful Meg! I just love your gorgeous hand stitching...it adds so much depth and texture!
ReplyDeleteMeg, this is an amazing piece--truly turning compost in every sense into something beautiful--like an antique botanical print too!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO beautiful Meg. Just amazing. I love that you used "ugly" fabric, how perfect. And it's anything but ugly.
ReplyDeleteWOW! It really speaks to me./
